    365 Bible Reading

    April 4 – James 5

LOOK:  “My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.”

LISTEN:  James teaches us the importance of functioning as the body of Christ.  We are called to care for each other and to hold each other accountable.  The goal is restoration not attacking a brother in Christ.

LEARN:  Are we living in community?  Are we allowing people to have input into our lives and are we loving others enough to lovingly confront them?

    365 Bible Reading

    April 3 – James 4

LOOK:  “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

LISTEN:  James makes the case that our problem boils down to selfish pride.  When we focus on our own pleasure fulfillment, we neglect God and others.  The greatest command is to love God and love people with everything we’ve got.  When we love ourselves more than anything else, we reject what God desires most from our lives.

LEARN:  Are you loving God and loving people?  Has selfish pride become a barrier that keeps you from living the life that God wants from you?

    365 Bible Reading

    April 2 – James 3

LOOK:  “The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.”

LISTEN:  Oh, be careful little mouth what you say…  This is one of my favorite of the James teachings.  I love how he describes the power of the tongue like an animal, a fire, a ships rudder.  We should listen to James and understand the power our tongues have to hurt, kill and destroy.  We should also understand how our speech can be positive too!

LEARN:  What’s coming out of your mouth lately?  Is it positive or negative?  Uplifting or cutting?  Beneficial or harmful?  Evaluate and determine your next course of action.
