April 19 – Matthew 11
LOOK: John the Baptist sends some of his disciples to ask Jesus directly if He was the Messiah. John has spent his life preparing the way for the ministry of Jesus and now he wants to know without any doubt that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus sends the affirmative message back and then begins to condemn the people of Israel that would not believe in Him even after John’s testimony and the evidence of Jesus’ miracles. Jesus ends this passage with a call to believe and repent.
LISTEN: Matthew’s gospel is written for Jews from a Jewish perspective but we can certainly draw principles from it. The people of Israel rejected Christ even though they had all the evidence they could ever need. Today, we all have multiple copies of the Bible that provides us a clear and thorough evidence that Jesus is the Son of God.
LEARN: In light of the evidence in Scripture, have you believed and repented? Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
