January 29 – Acts 5
LOOK: “Civil Disobedience” There was much fear when people heard what happened to Ananias and Sapphira when they lied to God. The Apostles were gaining a following. People were bringing in the sick just hoping that the shadow of Peter would pass over them. The religious lost were furious at the apostles and their teachings. The apostles were jailed but miraculously set free and immediately went to preach and teach again.
A leader of the Pharisees named Gamaliel said it well when he declared, “…if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”
LISTEN: I admire the resolve and attitude of the apostles. They preached boldly even in the face of persecution. The people could not deny the power and authority of their message because of the lives they were living in front of them.
LEARN: We should be convinced of Gamaliel’s statement, “if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” Do we believe this is true? If so, we should live lives that clearly represent Jesus and preach the Gospel without fear!
