January 24 – Acts 2
LOOK: The Holy Spirit came and filled the believers. They were able to praise God and witness in many languages. Because of the commotion, Peter was able to address the attracted crowd and he preached with power. His message was clear and called for repentance for salvation and baptism as a sign of change and commitment. Three thousand people were saved and added to the church that day…Here is how the Bible records the commitment of the early church, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
LISTEN: I love the way Peter took the opportunity to present a clear Gospel. He quoted Scripture so he must have been prepared at all times to preach the Word. I also love the way the early church was a true body, loving, caring and helping each other.
